If I hadn’t seen this, I wouldn’t have believed it

Legendary hothead Bobby Knight is actually mellowing into an enjoyable old man. How else do you explain this?

Speaking of Knight, I love listening to him talk basketball on ESPN. I learn something from him every time.
Hat tip to Tom Rock for the find.

Make it stop, please!

Thank God the special congressional election to fill Kirsten Gillibrand’s seat is tomorrow here in New York. I can’t take this anymore!
Yes, I have a preference who wins the race between Democrat Scott Murphy and Republican Jim Tedisco. No, I’m not going to tell you who it is. You don’t care about my political views.
I [...]

Maybe I’m too old to understand this

I don’t get the appeal of ‘Facebook.’ Or ‘Twitter.’ Or even what is by Inter-Google standards the old standby, ‘MySpace.’
Full disclosure. I have a ‘Twitter‘ account, set up by the Sports Blogs Nation tech gurus to promote my football site, Big Blue View. I also joined ‘Facebook’ the other day, again just to promote my [...]

Take risks? Not right now

My copy of ‘Newsweek‘ magazine arrived in the mail Tuesday afternoon. Staring at me on the front cover was Uncle Sam with the headline “I Want You … To Start Spending.”
The Newsweek article, which you can find here, says in part:
As consumers hibernate and investors hoard cash, the economy is withering. This new age of [...]

Never underestimate the power of a blog

Many of the best political blogs gained acceptance years ago. Sports blogs are not quite there yet, but they are catching up.
I was reminded of this by something I posted earlier today at Pinstripe Alley, where you may know I write about the New York Yankees. I dropped in a quick line about ex-Yankee Bernie Williams [...]

Job Fair? Not really

I went to a relatively large Job Fair at the local community college a couple of days ago. With the rising unemployment rate I figured it would be busy, and that there would be television coverage, and I was right.
Only I wish they had billed the ‘Job Fair’ as what it really was. It was [...]

Yeah, this was worth discussing!

I don’t often stray anywhere near politics in my writing. There are people far more passionate, and knowledgeable, than I am. Today, though, I have to make an exception.
I generally love the writing of New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd. Today, though, I have ask. Maureen, what on earth are you thinking?
You wasted an entire [...]

Blogging is taking over my life

I began blogging about three years ago as a simple hobby, just a way to express some opinions and fill some empty evening time with something other than television.
It has become an obsession. Hours spent each day scouring for items about the New York Yankees or New York Giants, about whom I do most of [...]

Don’t complain to me about your job

My wife came home from her job the other day and agitatedly told me the story of how many of her co-workers had been complaining at a meeting that day.
She works in a school system and, due to budget cuts here in New York state, some shuffling is being done. Early retirements are being offered [...]

Surprisingly, I have become an expert

I started blogging about sports maybe three years ago. I am a former sports writer, I have opinions about the sports and the teams I love, and blogging was a simple way for me to write about things I enjoyed in my spare time.
I had no idea when I started that it would become an [...]
